Electrolyte Capsules: Support Hydration and Performance on the Move
When training or racing for long periods, maintaining proper hydration is essential for both performance and recovery. For athletes who can’t always carry multiple bottles of a carb / electrolyte drink, electrolyte capsules offer a practical alternative.
The RIDE Nutrition Electrolyte Capsules were developed to provide a convenient way to maintain fluid balance when using traditional drink mixes or hydration tablets isn’t practical.
What Are Electrolyte Capsules?
The RIDE Nutrition Electrolyte Capsules are easy to swallow, vegetable based capsules that deliver 250 mg of sodium per capsule, alongside smaller amounts of potassium, calcium and magnesium.
Sodium is the primary electrolyte lost through sweat, making it one of the most important minerals to replace during prolonged exercise. By delivering a precise amount of sodium per capsule these capsules allow athletes to better control and monitor their electrolyte intake, particularly during longer training sessions or races.
Our capsules are supplied in tubs of 100 and can be easily dispensed, stored and transported during you chosen activity in our Micro pouches
When Are Electrolyte Capsules Most Useful?
Electrolyte capsules are particularly helpful during long duration training sessions and endurance events where sweat losses can be significant.
Athletes often use them during :
- Long cycling rides
- Endurance running sessions
- Triathlons
- Ultra distance races
- Endurance motosport events
As exercise duration is so high during these scenarios, athletes may prefer to drink plain water rather than flavoured sports drinks, but still need to replace the sodium lost through sweat. Electrolyte capsules allow them to maintain hydration balance without needing to rely entirely on pre mixed hydration drinks.
Because they are taken as capsules, they are also convenient during races when stopping to mix bottles or prepare drink mixes isn’t time efficient.
Supporting the ‘Rehydrate’ Phase of Recovery
Electrolytes play a key role in the “Rehydrate” component of the three R’s of recovery—Repair, Refuel, and Rehydrate.
While protein and carbohydrates help repair muscles and replenish glycogen stores, electrolytes help regulate fluid balance and support proper muscle function following exercise. Replacing sodium lost through sweat can help improve fluid retention and assist the body in restoring normal hydration levels.
Using electrolyte capsules alongside adequate fluid intake can therefore support effective hydration both during exercise and in the recovery period afterwards.
How to Use Electrolyte Capsules
The capsules are designed to be swallowed whole with water. As a general guideline, it’s recommended to take each capsule with two to three mouthfuls of fluid to help with absorption and hydration.
Some athletes choose to open the capsules and add the contents to their water bottle or sports drink to increase the sodium concentration of their drink. However, most athletes simply swallow them during training or racing for convenience.
How Much Sodium Do They Provide?
Each capsule provides 250 mg of sodium.
For reference, two capsules deliver roughly the same sodium content as around a quarter teaspoon of table salt, helping athletes replace a meaningful portion of the sodium lost through sweat during prolonged exercise.
Because sweat rates and sodium losses vary significantly between individuals, the capsule format allows athletes to adjust their intake depending on training intensity, duration and environmental conditions.
A Practical Hydration Solution for Endurance Athletes
For cyclists, runners and endurance athletes, hydration strategies often need to adapt depending on the environment, race format and personal preference. Electrolyte capsules provide a flexible and portable option for maintaining sodium intake when carrying large volumes of sports drink isn’t realistic.
